Cantina Oliena In 1950 a group of viticulturalists determined it was easier to pool their resources to save money and make netter wine. So it was that Cantina Oliena began its production of the Nepente Cannonau, and in 1972 the small company was part of a DOC santioned area. They pride themselves in now effectively processing handpicked Cannonau grapes to make silky smooth wine. Today the company exemplifies the heart and soul of this beautiful area of Sardegna.
The most beautiful island in the Mediterranean , Sardegna over the centuries has had its share of oddities. During the Bronze Age (15th-18th century B.C.) the nuraghi structures formed early communities that were incorporated into Roman life as late as the 6th century B.C. Even though they are miles from the Italian mainland, the Sards developed into a pastoral society that reiled on sheep for their livelihood. The noteworthy Pecorino Sardo is well-known throughout the world. Their most famous red wine is made with the Cannonau grape, while the white varietal is Vermentino.
